Perched on a sloping site overlooking the Barwon River, this project breathes new life into an original 1980s Lowe Architects design. Surrounded by native bushland, the objective was to honour the home’s original character while creating a light, bright, and functional space tailored for modern family life.

We focused on bringing warmth and texture into every room through a carefully considered palette of natural timber, exposed blockwork, and charred exterior cladding. Inside, a striking curved marble kitchen and custom joinery anchor the main living zone, drawing the eye naturally out to the surrounding treetop canopy. The entire build flows smoothly out to an award-winning pool and garden, offering a grounded and contemporary interpretation of the classic Australian bush retreat that feels both private and expansive.

Navigating the steep contours of the sloping site required intricate structural engineering and careful site management to execute seamlessly. We worked to preserve the original structural bones, opening up internal floor plans to allow natural light to penetrate deep into the living zones throughout the day.

Every custom detail was crafted with longevity in mind, from the bespoke timber joinery through to the tactile exterior masonry. The resulting spaces frame the surrounding native riverbank views perfectly, striking a balance between high-end architectural finish and everyday family functionality.

“My architecture studio has engaged Walker Constructions for several of our high-end residential builds in the past few years. We are continually impressed with their professionalism and thoroughness. Caleb and Matt‘s experience and eye for detail make them the stand-out builder for us. They are extremely approachable and honest also which is critical. It is not very often that builders surpass our expectations every single time- but Walker certainly do.”
